Bio
Chima Dennis Dike is a self-taught visual artist born in Nigeria and currently residing in New Jersey. His artistic journey began at the age of five when his mother introduced him to painting as a way to keep him engaged and away from the bustling streets of Owerri, where he grew up. What started as a simple pastime quickly evolved into a deep passion for visual storytelling.
Working primarily with acrylic paint on canvas, wood panels, and fabrics, Chima also sculpts with clay, adding a tactile dimension to his artistic expression. His work focuses on portraiture, capturing the essence of his subjects through bold textures and colors. He draws inspiration from his environment, African traditions and culture, and the ever-evolving political atmosphere. Through his art, Chima seeks to reflect the complexities of identity, resilience, and the struggles and triumphs of his community.
Each piece is more than an image —it is a statement, a memory, a voice. My art is an invitation to engage, to feel, and to reflect on the shared human experience.
